Objective and Function
The SRA is a voluntary, non - political organization that seeks to represents the interests of all property owners in the Stellenbosch municipal jurisdiction. The primary goal of the SRA is to maintain a dialogue with town and district management with a view to promoting transparency and public - private partnership, and in so doing achieving a balance in growth and development of Stellenbosch which serves the best interests of all inhabitants.
The main functions of the SRA are :
- Liaison with municipal management with a view to prioritising and accelerating achievement of strategic objectives contained in the Stellenbosch Integrated Development Programme 2007 - 201im, the Spatial Development Framework and related, approved plans;
- Monitoring effectivity of municipal expenditure and implementation of projects;
- Conservation and preservation of rivers and public nature areas, e.g. cleaning of rivers and river banks,removal of alien vegetation, conservation of Papegaaiberg, preservation of natural environment in Jonkershoek valley and mountain slopes, maintenance of winelands character.
- Diligent investigation of alienation and use of municipal property and other public assets and legal action, such as in the case of tender 34, when deemed to be in the best interests of the Stellenbosch Community.
SRA priorities for 2009
- Constructive, continuous monitoring of municipal affairs;
- Ensuring that due and proper processes are observed in applications for development and construction in the Winelands District Municipality and Stellenbosch Municipality and taking legal action , as in the case of tender 34 and Brandwacht Farm, when necessary and unavoidable;
- Conservation of Papegaaiberg, Jonkershoek Valley, mountain slopes and other natural areas and resouces an dproper utilisation of public property in support of the Munispality's" Clean and Green" initiative ;
- increase of SRA membership and inclusion of all communities and areas in Stellenbosch.
